Without the distractions of other coursework, summer is a great time to focus on your creative writing skills. Whether your passion is fiction, poetry, drama, or non-fiction, you'll find excellent summer programs that match your interests. Our list of five creative writing programs clearly doesn't do justice to the wide-ranging opportunities available. If you know of another program that you think would provide high school students with valuable writing experiences, please share your recommendations here. Submissions are welcome from students, parents, teachers and staff who have close knowledge of a program. Tell Us About a Program

Workshop at Stanford

I participated in a two-week creative writing program offered by Education Unlimited at Stanford, and I had a great experience there -- the friends I made and the feedback I received on my writing was invaluable, and I would greatly reccomend the program to any rising sophomore, junior or senior looking for a creative writing program to attend in the summer. Highlights of the program included guest talks by writers, and a trip to literary San Francisco.

Workshop at USC

I attended a great creative writing summer program at University of Southern California last year. It was a 4 week workshop that focused on several different writing topics, like personal essays and flash fiction, and I got 3 college credits for it.
