If you're curious how your ACT scores compare with other applicants, check out the table below. It shows ACT scores for admission to the 11 four-year public colleges and universities in the State University System of Florida. The table presents the middle 50% of enrolled students. If your scores fall within or above these ranges, you're on target for admission to one of these public institutions.

Realize, of course, that ACT scores aren't the only part of your application. If you perform better on the SAT than the ACT, use those scores. Also, your academic record is the most important part of your application (learn about the features of a strong academic record). Success in AP, IB, duel enrollment, and honors courses can increase your chances. Some of the schools in the table above will also want to see a winning essay, meaningful extracurricular activities and good letters of recommendation. New College of Florida, for example, uses the Common Application and has holistic admissions.

That said, ACT and SAT scores do carry a lot of weight in the admissions equation for Florida's public institutions. If your score is below the range above, you should consider the school to be a reach. This doesn't mean you can't get in (25% of admitted students have an ACT score below the lower number above), but you should definitely make sure you are applying to other schools that are matches and safeties.
