New Mexico offers a range of college options from large public universities to small private liberal arts colleges. Many schools have open admissions, so students who have earned a high school diploma with appropriate college preparatory classes will most likely find a college that will admit them. A couple options, however, are fairly selective. To see if you're on track for admission, the table below can help. The table shows SAT scores for the middle 50% of matriculated students. If your scores are within or above the range shown, you're on target for admission. If your scores are below the range in the table, keep in mind that 25% of admitted students had scores below the lower number.
Be sure to keep the SAT in perspective. The exam is just one part of the application, and a strong academic record is even more important than test scores. Also, some colleges will look at qualitative measures such as a strong essay, meaningful extracurricular activities and good letters of recommendation.
