ACT Scores for Admission to Four-Year Maine Colleges

Good news for those of you who don't like standardized tests: Many of Maine's top colleges are test-optional and don't require ACT or SAT scores. Other schools have either open admissions or an admissions bar that isn't unreasonably high. In the chart below, you'll find scores for the middle 50% of enrolled students. If your scores fall within or above these ranges, you're on target for admission to one of these Maine colleges. Keep in mind that 25% of enrolled students have ACT scores below those listed.

The SAT is much more popular than the ACT in Maine, so you'll find that a few schools don't post ACT data or don't post complete data.

Remember that ACT scores are just one part of the application. The admissions officers in Maine, especially at the top Maine colleges, will also want to see a strong academic record, a winning essay, meaningful extracurricular activities and good letters of recommendation.

Note that when a test-optional college posts its ACT data, I have included those numbers here. Thus, you'll find test-score ranges for Bowdoin and Colby even though both schools have some form of test-optional admissions.
