Realize, of course, that SAT scores are just one part of the application. A strong academic record will be the most important part of your application, so success in AP, IB, dual enrollment, and honors courses can all play an important part of your application. At a school like the New College of Florida, a winning essay, meaningful extracurricular activities and good letters of recommendation are also important.

At other universities, your grades and standardized test scores are going to be the most important part of the application. The University of Central Florida, Florida State University, the University of Florida, The University of North Florida, and the University of South Florida are all relatively selective, and the great majority of applicants have SAT scores that are above average. The flagship University of Florida campus in Gainesville is particularly selective, and weak SAT scores could seriously jeopardize your chances of getting in. New College of Florida, a public liberal arts honors college, is the most selective of all the schools.
