Wingate University Description:

Wingate University's 400-acre campus is located Wingate, North Carolina, about 30 miles from Charlotte. The school was founded in 1896, and became a 4-year university in 1977. Wingate is a private liberal arts college with ties to the Baptist Church, and in recent decades the school has expanded advanced degree offerings in professional fields such as pharmacy, education, business and medicine. Undergraduates can choose from 34 majors; popular choices include biology, nursing, human services, business administration, and finance. Outside of the classroom, students can join a number of the 42 clubs and organizations on campus—including a campus TV station and newspaper. Other options include performing arts ensembles, academic honor societies, recreational sports, and service projects. Internships, research and study abroad are all important at Wingate. In athletics, Wingate fields 19 NCAA teams, and the Wingate Bulldogs compete in the NCAA Division II South Atlantic Conference. Popular sports include football, basketball, soccer, lacrosse, and track and field. The town of Wingate, with a population of around 4,000, offers students a small, quiet community, with nearby Charlotte providing a larger city experience--students get the best of both worlds.
