Washburn University Description:

Washburn University is a public institution located on a 160-acre campus in a residential neighborhood of Topeka, Kansas. Kansas City is about an hour to the east. The campus is home to an observatory, an art museum, and extensive athletic facilities. In recent years the university has expanded its on-campus housing facilities. The university offers over 200 academic programs ranging from certifications to doctorates. At the bachelor's level, professional fields such as business, nursing, criminal justice and education are most popular. Academics are supported by a 16 to 1 student / faculty ratio. Student life is active with over 100 organizations including a fraternity and sorority system. Other choices range from honor societies, to recreational sports, to religious clubs, to performing arts groups. In athletics, the Washburn Ichabods and Lady Blues compete in the NCAA Division II Mid-American Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA). The university fields five men's and five women's intercollegiate sports. Popular sports include basketball, football, golf, tennis, and soccer.
