USC Aiken Description:

Established in 1961, the University of South Carolina Aiken is a public university located northeast of Augusta, and about an hour southwest of Columbia. The 453-acre campus is home to the DuPont Planetarium, the Etherredge Center for Fine and Performing Arts, the Ruth Patrick Science Education Center, and the 4,000-seat Convocation Center. Students can choose from 35 academic programs with business being the most popular. The university has a largely undergraduate focus, and students can expect a lot of interaction with their professors -- academics are supported by a 13 to 1 student / faculty ratio and an average class size of 16. The student life scene includes several fraternities and sororities and a wide range of other student organizations. In athletics, the USC Aiken Pacers compete in the NCAA Division II Peach Belt Conference. The university fields five men's and six women's intercollegiate sports.
