University of Wisconsin-Platteville Description:

UW-Platteville is one of the 13 comprehensive universities in the University of Wisconsin System. The university was founded in 1866, making it the oldest public university in Wisconsin. Platteville is a small town in the southwest corner of the state; Dubuque Iowa is less than half an hour away. Professional fields in business, agriculture, education, engineering and technology are most popular with UW-Platteville undergraduates. Academics are supported by a 22 to 1 student / faculty ratio. On the student life front, the university gives students a choice of over 170 clubs and organizations including fraternities and sororities, recreational sports, performing arts groups, and academic honor societies. For students interested in athletics, the UW-Platteville Pioneers compete in the NCAA Division III Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) for most sports. The university fields seven men's and eight women's intercollegiate sports. Popular sports include basketball, track and field, and soccer.
