University of West Alabama Description:

The University of West Alabama first opened its doors in 1839 when it was a church-related female academy. Today it is a master's-level public university located on a 600-acre campus in Livingston, Alabama. In recent years, the university has developed its online degree offerings, especially for master's degrees in education. Business and education are the most popular fields at the bachelor's degree level, and the associate's degree program in nursing is also popular. Undergraduate academics are supported by a 17 to 1 student / faculty ratio. Student life is active -- the university has a wide range of student clubs and organizations including a fraternity and sorority system. On the athletic front, the UWA Tigers compete in the NCAA Division II Gulf South Conference for most sports. The university fields six men's and seven women's intercollegiate teams.
