Founded in 1830, the University of Richmond is a selective private university located six miles from downtown Richmond, Virginia. Undergraduates can choose from 60 majors, and the college typically does well in national rankings of liberal arts colleges and undergraduate business programs. Students can also choose from 75 study-abroad programs in 30 countries. The school's strengths in the liberal arts and sciences earned it a chapter of the prestigious Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. Richmond has an impressive 8 to 1 student / faculty ratio and an average class size of 16. In athletics, the Richmond Spiders compete in the NCAA Division I Atlantic 10 Conference.
