University of Maine at Presque Isle Description:

The University of Maine at Presque Isle is a public university and one of the seven universities in the University of Maine System. Presque Isle is a city of about 10,000 people located in the rural northeastern corner of the state. Canada is less than 15 miles away. UMPI places high value on small classes and quality teaching. The university has an entirely undergraduate focus, and no classes are taught by teaching assistants. The school takes environmental issues seriously and is home to a 600 KW wind turbine and a solar array. The school is also home to the Northern Maine Museum of Science. Students can choose from a variety of clubs and activities, and the campus features a relatively new fitness facility with a 25 yard pool and 37 foot climbing wall. The surrounding area offers a wide range of four-season outdoor recreation. In athletics, the UMPI Owls compete in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA). The university fields six men's and six women's intercollegiate sports.
