University of Maine at Farmington Description:

Established in 1864, the University of Maine at Farmington is Maine's first public university. The school has a largely undergraduate focus that is appropriate for its designation as Maine's public liberal arts college. Outdoor lovers will appreciate the southern Maine location with easy access to skiing, hiking, rafting, and mountain biking. The university's core curriculum has a liberal arts focus, but pre-professional tracks in medicine, law and business are offered. Education fields are the most popular at the undergraduate level. Academics are supported by by a 15 to 1 student / faculty ratio and an average class size of 19. The school takes pride in the close interaction of students and faculty. On the athletic front, the University of Maine at Farmington Beavers compete in the NCAA Division III North Atlantic Conference. The university fields nine women's and seven men's varsity sports.
