University of Maine at Augusta Description:

The University of Maine at Augusta is the third largest school in Maine's public university system. UMA was established in 1965 as a branch of the University of Maine at Orono designed to serve continuing education students seeking associate degrees. Today, the university is shifting to become a predominately baccalaureate institution. True to its roots, however, the university still caters to part-time and continuing education students through its main campus in Augusta, branch campus in Bangor, nine University College centers, 56 receiving sites throughout the state, and numerous online offerings. The university has a large part-time and transfer student population, and only 21% of new students are full-time freshmen. Students can choose from eighteen bachelor's degree programs (mental health and human services is the most popular field of study). Academics are supported by a 19 to 1 student / faculty ratio. In athletics, the UMA Moose compete in the Yankee Small College Conference.
