The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff is a public, historically black university located about 40 miles south of Little Rock. UAPB is part of the University of Arkansas System, and about 65 percent of students come from Arkansas. Founded in 1873, UAPB is the second oldest public university in Arkansas. Business administration is the most popular undergraduate major, and academics are supported by a 17 to 1 student / faculty ratio. Student life includes an active fraternity and sorority system and the Marching Musical Machine of the Mid-South. On the athletic front, the UAPB Golden Lions compete in the NCAA Division I Southwestern Athletic Conference.
