Shorter University Description:

Founded in 1873 as the Cherokee Baptist Female College, Shorter University is now a private coeducational liberal arts university affiliated with the Georgia Baptist Convention. The university takes its Christian identity seriously, and all employees must sign a "personal lifestyle statement" declaring that they are committed Bible believing Christians, that they will refrain from any public consumption of alcohol, and that they reject any sexual activity other than marital heterosexual sex. The school's 150-acre hilltop campus is located in Rome, Georgia, a little over an hour from both Atlanta and Chattanooga, Tennessee. Over 80% of students come from Georgia. Undergraduates can choose from over 50 academic programs with business and education being most popular. Academics are supported by a 13 to 1 student faculty ratio, and the university takes pride in the personal attention students receive from the faculty and staff. Student life is active with a wide range of clubs and organizations including a small fraternity and sorority system. On the athletic front, the Shorter Hawks compete in the NCAA Division II Gulf South Conference. The university fields 13 sports for men and 12 for women.
