The large majority of applicants are admitted to Prairie View each year; in 2016, the school had an acceptance rate of 85%. Prairie View A&M University Description:

Prairie View A&M is a historically Black university located in Prairie View, Texas, less than an hour northwest of Houston. The College of Nursing is located in Houston. Founded in 1876, Prairie View is the second oldest public university in Texas and part of the Texas A&M University System. The university offers 50 bachelor's degree programs and about 40 graduate degree programs. At the undergraduate level, professional fields in business, architecture, criminal justice and architecture are all popular. Nursing is the most popular undergraduate major. Student life at PVAMU is active thanks to the school's fraternity and sorority system, Marching Storm marching band, and dozens of other student clubs and organizations. In athletics, the Prairie View A&M Panthers compete in the NCAA Division I Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC). The university fields seven men's and nine women's Division I sports.
