Mississippi Valley State University Description:

Mississippi Valley State University first opened its doors in 1950 as a teacher training college. Today it is a comprehensive university offering bachelor's and master's degree programs in a wide range of academic areas (education remains extremely popular). MVSU is a historically Black university located on 450 acres just outside of Itta Bena, a small town in the Mississippi Delta. The school sits roughly midway between Jackson, Mississippi and Memphis, Tennessee. The university has numerous student organizations including an active Greek system. MVSU does well with financial aid, and nearly all students receive some form of grant aid. On the athletic front, the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils compete in the NCAA Division I Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC). The school fields nine women's and seven men's Division I teams.
