Johnson & Wales University Description:

Johnson & Wales University is a career-centered university with four campuses in the United States -- Providence, Rhode Island; North Miami, Florida; Denver, Colorado; and Charlotte, North Carolina. The Denver campus is home to three colleges: the College of Business, the Hospitality College, and the College of Culinary Arts. Culinary Arts has the highest enrollments. Students come from 49 states and 9 countries. Johnson & Wales approaches academics differently than many schools, and it may not be the best choice for students who are uncertain about their career direction. Unlike many colleges and universities that view the first year or two as a time of academic exploration and discovery, Johnson & Wales gets students started on courses in their majors from the first year. JWU's curriculum emphasizes real-life applications of learning, hands-on experiences, internships, and other forms of professional engagement. Academics are supported by a 25 to 1 student / faculty ratio. On the student life front, Johnson & Wales has dozens of clubs and organizations and an intercollegiate athletic program. The JWU Wildcats compete in the NAIA Association of Independent Institutions. The university fields three men's and three women's intercollegiate teams. Located on a 26-acre campus in a historic neighborhood of Denver, JWU provides students with easy access to the attractions of the city as well as nearby skiing and outdoor recreation.
