Franciscan University Description:

Franciscan University of Steubenville is a private Catholic university located in Eastern Ohio along the Ohio River. Pittsburgh is about 30 miles to the east. The university takes its Catholic identity seriously and describes the campus environment as "pro-life, pro-family, and pro-Catholic." The university offers 5 associate, 36 bachelor, and 7 master degree programs. At the bachelor's level, the most popular majors span professional fields (nursing, education, business), the humanities (English, philosophy) and religious fields (theology, catechetics). Academics are supported by a 15 to 1 student / faculty ratio, and the university has a roughly equal number of full-time and part-time faculty. Within a year of graduation, over 90% of students successfully move on to employment, graduate school, or religious life. The university has a range of student groups and organization including a unique residential model centered around "faith households" -- small same-sex groups of peers who support each other in their efforts to grow in mind, body and spirit. Athletics are popular at Franciscan University, and the Barons compete in the NCAA Division III Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference. The school fields six men's and eight women's intercollegiate sports.
