Fort Lewis College is a public liberal arts college situated on a mountainside perch over Durango, Colorado. Outdoor lovers will find excellent skiing, climbing, hiking, mountain biking, kayaking and camping in the area. The college's diverse student body comes from 47 states, 18 countries, and 122 American Indian tribes. The college has over 100 academic programs; business is most popular at the bachelor's level. The curriculum emphasizes experiential learning through internships, research, study abroad and service learning. Academics are supported by a 17 to 1 student / faculty ratio and an average class size of 21. Campus life is active with over 70 student clubs and organizations. On the athletic front, the Fort Lewis Skyhawks compete in the NCAA Division II Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The college fields five men's and six women's intercollegiate sports.
