Finlandia University Admissions Overview:

Finlandia University accepts less than half of applicants each year, but the university is less selective than that number might suggest. While the school certainly enrolls some strong "A" students, "B" students with middling SAT or ACT scores also have a decent chance of being admitted. Admissions at the school are rolling, so students can apply at any point throughout the year. Required application materials include an application form, high school transcripts, and scores from the SAT or ACT. Check out the school's website for more information, and to submit an application. Students are encouraged to visit the campus for a tour to see if the school would be a good fit for them before applying.

Admissions Data (2016):

  • Finlandia University Acceptance Rate: 46%
  • Test Scores -- 25th / 75th Percentile

Finlandia University Description:

Finlandia University, founded in 1896, is located in the small town of Hancock, Michigan. A private university, Finlandia is affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. The university's symbol of a birch leaf is representative of the school's rich Finnish heritage, as well as its interest in environmental sustainability. With a student / faculty ratio of 10 to 1, Finlandia students are supported by small classes and close relationships with the faculty. Finlandia's northern location near Lake Superior means the school gets lots of snow, so students have plenty of opportunities for snowboarding and skiing. Outside of the classroom, students can join a range of clubs and activities, including academic groups, performing arts ensembles, and other special-interested clubs. On the athletic front, the Finlandia Lions compete in several different conferences at the NCAA Division III level. Popular sports include basketball, baseball, soccer, volleyball, and ice hockey.
