Emporia State University Description:

Founded in 1863 as a normal school dedicated to educating teachers, Emporia State University is now a comprehensive university offering undergraduate and graduate degree programs in a wide range of fields. Teaching remains the most popular area of study at both the bachelor's and master's levels, but nursing, business, and sociology are also popular among undergraduates. Academics are supported by an 18 to 1 student / faculty ratio and an average class size of 23. The National Teachers Hall of Fame is located at Emporia. The university's 212-acre campus is located in Emporia, Kansas, a small city situated between Topeka and Wichita. Kansas City is about 90 minutes to the northeast. Student life is active and includes a fraternity and sorority system. The ESU Hornets and Lady Hornets compete in the NCAA Division II Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA). The university fields six men's and seven women's intercollegiate sports. Popular sports include cross country, football, tennis, softball, and basketball.
