Elmira College Description:
Founded in 1855 as a women's college, Elmira College has been coeducational since 1969. The school's hometown in Upstate New York is not far from the picturesque Finger Lakes wine country. The college prides itself in the interaction between professors and students, and the school has an impressive 12 to 1 student / faculty ratio and an average class size of 16. The academic calendar features short 12-week semesters followed by a 6-week term devoted to travel, research, and innovative courses. For its strengths in the liberal arts and sciences, Elmira was awarded a chapter of Phi Beta Kappa. On the athletic front, the Elmira College Soaring Eagles compete in the NCAA Division III Empire 8 Athletic Conference. The college fields seven men's and ten women's intercollegiate sports.
