Established in 1906, Eastern Kentucky University is a public university located in Richmond, Kentucky, a city of 33,000 residents situated 26 miles southeast of Lexington. The university offers 168 degree programs through its five colleges; professional fields in business, health, and education are quite popular among undergraduates. EKU has a 17 to 1 student / faculty ratio. The university has over 150 student organizations and an active fraternity and sorority system. On the athletic front, the Eastern Kentucky University Colonels compete in the NCAA Division I Ohio Valley Conference.
