Admissions Chances

DigiPen Institute of Technology, which accepts just over half of applicants, has a competitive admissions pool with above average grades and test scores. However, DigiPen also has a holistic admissions process and admissions decisions are based on more than numbers. A strong application essay and glowing letters of recommendation can strengthen your application, as can participation in meaningful extracurricular activities and a rigorous course schedule. Most of DigiPen's science programs require a strong math background and applicants should have completed math through at least precalculus with a grade of B or higher in all math classes. Additionally, applicants are encouraged to complete AP coursework in calculus, physics, and computer science.

Application materials including letters of recommendation, lists of extracurricular activities, and a resume are optional, but recommended. The college is looking for students who will contribute to the campus community in meaningful ways, not just students who show promise in the classroom. Applicants are encouraged to submit an additional essay to explain any circumstances that may have an impact on their application. Note that certain majors require submission of art, design, or performance portfolios. Students with particularly compelling stories or achievements can still receive serious consideration even if their grades and scores are outside of DigiPen's average range.
