Established in 1955, Brigham Young University - Hawaii is a private university in Laie, Hawaii, owned and operated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The 100-acre campus sits between the Koolau mountains and the Pacific coastline, just 35 miles north of Honolulu. BYU Hawaii emphasizes diversity, and its relatively small student population represents over 70 countries and cultures. Academically, the university has a student faculty ratio of 16 to 1 and offers 25 undergraduate majors. Popular programs of study include accounting, computer and information science and international cultural studies. Campus life is active, with students participating in a variety of clubs and cultural activities; students are encouraged to participate in the university’s religious life as well, and the Church is closely involved with most university activities. The Brigham Young University Seasiders compete in the NCAA Division II Pacific West Conference.
