Founded in 1859, Averett University is a small university whose main campus is located in Danville, a riverside town in southern Virginia. The university has another eleven locations throughout the state that cater to adult learners. Students come from 23 states and 17 countries. The main campus has a 13 to 1 student / faculty ratio and an average class size of 15. Undergraduates can choose from over 30 majors; fields in health, business, and criminal justice are most popular. On the athletic front the Averett University Cougars compete in the NCAA Division III USA South Conference. The school fields seven men's and seven women's Division III teams.
