Alabama A&M University Description:

Alabama A&M University, or AAMU, is a public, historically Black university located in Normal, a town just north of Huntsville, Alabama. The school first opened its doors in 1875 with two teachers. Today Alabama A&M is a doctoral degree granting institution with over 5,000 students. The AAMU curriculum is supported by a 19 to 1 student / faculty ratio. High achieving students should look into the Honors Program for access to special courses, professional development opportunities, cultural events, and a community service emphasis. Student life is active with over 100 clubs and organizations including fraternities and sororities. On the athletic front, the Alabama A&M Bulldogs compete in the NCAA Division I Southwestern Athletic Conference.The university fields seven men's and eight women's Division I sports.
