UVA is part of the NCAA Division I Atlantic Coast Conference. Located in Charlottesville, the university is near Jefferson's home at Monticello. The school has strengths in academic areas from the humanities to engineering. UVA is a member of the Association of American Universities, and it has a chapter of Phi Beta Kappa.
