University of the Incarnate Word Description:

Founded in 1881, the University of the Incarnate Word is a private Catholic institution located in San Antonio, Texas. UIW has many distinctions: it is the largest Catholic university in Texas, and it wins high marks for its diverse student body and the number of bachelor's degrees it awards to Hispanic students. Students come from across the United States and 70 other countries. Students can choose from 80 fields of study, with professional fields such as business, nursing and education being among the most popular. Academics are supported by a healthy 14 to 1 student / faculty ratio. The University of the Incarnate Word is a residential campus with an active student life. Students can choose from a wide range of clubs and organizations, and the campus is also home to several fraternities and sororities. On the intercollegiate athletic front, the UIW Cardinals compete in the NCAA Division I Southland Conference. The university fields 10 men's and 11 women's intercollegiate teams.
