Pine Manor College, founded in 1911, is located in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts--a neighborhood of Brookline. A small school, with only around 450 students, it was started as an all-female school; it has since become co-educational. Academically, Pine Manor College offers Associate, Bachelor, and Graduate degrees, in departments ranging from Creative Writing, to Biology, to Education, to the Visual and Performing Arts. Academics are supported by a healthy 10 to 1 student / faculty ratio. Outside of the classroom, students can join a number of clubs and activities, including: International Club, LGBTQ Alliance, Psychology Club, Step Team, and a "couch-to-5k" fitness group. On the athletic front, the Pine Manor College Gators compete in the NCAA Division III, within the Great South Athletic Conference, and as NCAA Independents. Popular sports include Soccer, Cross Country, and Basketball. The school is about 6 miles away from Boston, allowing students to experience a smaller school, while remaining close to a bustling city center.
