Philander Smith College Description:

Founded in 1877, Philander Smith College is a four-year, private historically Black college affiliated with the United Methodist church. Located in Little Rock, Arkansas, the campus supports a student body of under 600, with a healthy student/faculty ratio of 10 to 1. Philander Smith is the only member of the United Negro College Fund in Arkansas. The college offer a range of bachelor’s degrees through its academic divisions of Humanities, Education, Natural and Physical Sciences, Social Sciences and Business and Economics. Business is by far the most popular major. Students stay involved outside of the classroom, and the school is home to numerous student clubs and organizations, as well as an active Greek Life with four fraternities and four sororities. On the athletic front, the Philander Smith College Panthers compete at the intercollegiate level in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Gulf Coast Athletic Conference. Varsity sports include women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball, and men’s and women’s track and field.
