Missouri Western State University is a public, four-year university located on more than 700 acres in St. Joseph, Missouri. Kansas City is less than an hour to the south. Nicknamed Western, MWSU has about 6,000 graduate and undergraduate students and a student/faculty ratio of 18 to 1. The university offers a total of 75 degree programs, 94 majors, and 41 minors across its 18 academic departments. Since 1988, Western has had a selective honors program for high-achieving students. Western students keep busy outside of the classroom with over 20 intramural sports, an active Greek life, and 77 student clubs and organizations including an Anime Club and Gamer’s Guild. On the intercollegiate athletic front, Western competes in the NCAA Division II Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) with ten sports including football, softball, and men’s and women’s golf. The college mascot is Max the Griffon.
