Lyon College Description:

Founded in 1872, Lyon College has the distinction of being the oldest independent college in Arkansas. Morrow Hall, pictured here, was Lyon's original building (constructed in 1873 when the school was Arkansas College). Lyon's 136-acre campus is located in the foothills of the Ozarks in the small town of Batesville, Arkansas. Little Rock is roughly two hours to the southwest, and Memphis is a little over two hours to the east. Lyon College has been affiliated with the Presbyterian Church since its founding, and the school takes pride in its focus on intellectual, social, ethical, and spiritual growth. Students at Lyon can choose from 14 academic majors including a self-designed individualized major. Students can round out their educations with a choice of 20 minors. Academics at Lyon are supported by a healthy 15 to 1 student / faculty ratio and an average class size of 14. Campus life is active with over 40 student clubs and organizations including fraternities and sororities. On the athletic front, the Lyon College Scots compete in the NAIA Division I American Midwest Conference. Popular sports include basketball, baseball, soccer, wrestling, football, and volleyball.
