Brenau University Description:

Originally a Women's College, Brenau University now admits both men and women into its undergraduate and graduate programs. Founded in 1878 in Gainesville, Georgia, Brenau is about 50 miles northeast of Atlanta. The University of North Georgia is just a few miles to the south. With a student / faculty ratio of 12 to 1, the university can provide students a well-guided and personalized education.

The word "Brenau" is a combination of the German for "burn" and the Latin for "gold". The school's motto is "As Gold Refined by Fire." It is comprised of four separate schools: Health and Science, Fine Arts and Humanities, Business and Mass Communication, and Education. Degrees in nursing and health care administration are particularly popular. Students have access to a number of athletic teams, as well as Greek life, and many student-run clubs and organizations. The Brenau Golden Tigers compete in the NAIA Southern States Athletic Conference.
