Selma University Description:

Founded in 1878 as the Alabama Baptist Normal and Theological School, Selma University is today a private, four-year, historically Black, Baptist university. The school's location in Selma, Alabama, places it near historically important locations from the civil rights movement. Martin Luther King, Jr. spoke at the town's Brown Chapel, and the town was the starting point for the four-day march to Montgomery in protest of Jim Crow laws. Another historically Black college, Concordia College, is just a mile away. SU students can choose from one Associate of Arts degree, five Bachelor of Arts programs, and two Master of Arts programs. Biblical studies is the most popular field at all degree levels. Academics are supported by a 15 to 1 student / faculty ratio, and the university takes pride in its personal, family atmosphere. On the athletic front, the Selma University Bulldogs compete in baseball and men's and women's basketball.
