Texas College Description:

Founded in 1894, Texas College is a four-year, private college located in Tyler, Texas, a town often referred to as the "Rose Capital of the World." Dallas is a hundred miles to the west, and Houston is two hundred miles to the south. In 1944, it became one of the original 27 private historically Black colleges and universities (HBCU) organized by the United Negro College Fund. Texas College is affiliated with the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church. Its roughly 1,000 students are supported by a student / faculty ratio of 20 to 1. The college offers a total of 12 bachelor’s degree programs across its divisions of Natural and Computational Science, Education, Business and Social Sciences, and General Studies and Humanities. Professional fields in business and criminal justice are the most popular. Students stay active outside of the classroom, for the campus is home to an active Greek system with four fraternities and four sororities, a highly selective and competitive band, and many other clubs and organizations. The Texas College Steers compete in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) as a member of the Red River Conference (RRAC) and the Central States Football League (CSFL). The college fields five men's and five women's varsity sports.
