University of North Carolina at Pembroke Description:

The University of North Carolina at Pembroke has a rich history having been founded in 1887 as a school for educating American Indian teachers. Today it is a public master's degree-granting university that is part of the University of North Carolina System. The school still embraces its Native American heritage with its "Braves" team name, BraveHawk mascot, and Arrowhead campus monument. The diverse student population has a large American Indian and African American population. Students come from 19 countries and 24 states. The town of Pembroke is located in southern North Carolina midway between Charlotte (NC), Raleigh (NC), Wilmington (NC) and Columbia (SC). Interstates 74 and 95 make the access to the campus easy. Undergraduates can choose from 41 degree programs, and academics are supported by a 15 to 1 student / faculty ratio and an average class size of 21 students. Campus life at UNCP is active with over 80 student clubs and organizations including a Badminton Club, a Mixed Martial Arts Club, and the Swamp Dog Press/Printworks Club.
