Saint Augustine’s University is a private, historically Black, four-year liberal arts university located in downtown Raleigh, the capital of North Carolina. Raleigh is home to several other colleges: Meredith CollegeNorth Carolina State University, Shaw University and William Peace University. SAU is affiliated with the Episcopal Church, and the 105-acre campus is both smoke- and alcohol-free. Students can choose from 25 majors offered through the university's six schools: Applied Health and Medical Science; Business and Technology; Continuing Education; Liberal Arts and Education; Sciences, Mathematics and Engineering; and Social and Behavioral Sciences. Business, health, and social science fields tend to be the most popular among undergraduates. Academics are supported by a 14 to 1 student / faculty ratio and small classes. Students find plenty to do on campus with over 50 clubs and organizations ranging from service groups, academic clubs, music and dance groups, and academic honor societies. Athletics are also popular at SAU. The Saint Augustine's University Falcons compete in the NCAA Division II Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association. The university fields seven men's and seven women's intercollegiate sports.
