LaGrange College Description:

LaGrange College is a private liberal arts college affiliated with the United Methodist Church. The historic 120-acre campus is located in LaGrange, Georgia, a small city roughly 60 miles southwest of Atlanta and 95 miles northeast of Montgomery, Alabama. Students who are fond of fishing and other water sports will appreciate the proximity of West Point Lake, a 35-mile-long resevoir located just a few miles from campus. Founded in 1831 (originally as a women's college), LaGrange has the distinction of being the oldest private college in Georgia. The college takes pride in transforming the lives of its students, an undertaking that is supported by the school's healthy 11 to 1 student / faculty ratio and average class size of just 12 students. Nursing is the most popular major, but students' academic interests span the arts, sciences, social sciences, humanities, and professional fields. Students can choose from over 60 academic programs. LaGrange also offers business administration and human development majors with classes that meet in the evening to accommodate the schedules of working adults. The college does well with financial aid, and nearly all students receive some form of grant-based assistance. Campus life is active with more than 50 student clubs and organizations including three fraternities and three sororities, several service groups, and a number of academic honor societies. On the athletic front, the LaGrange Panthers compete in the NCAA Division III USA South Athletic Conference. The college fields eight men's and eight women's intercollegiate sports.
