In the graph above, the blue and green dots represent students who won admission. The data points suggest that Wartburg puts more emphasis on grades than on standardized test scores. Most admitted students had SAT scores (RW+M) of 950 or higher, an ACT composite of 18 or higher, and a high school average of a "B" or better. A few students managed to get in with grades and/or test scores below these ranges, but if you're a strong student you'll have plenty of company: a significant number of students admitted to Wartburg had grades in the "A" range.

Grades and standardized test scores tell only part of the admissions story for Wartburg. The college has holistic admissions and makes decisions based on more than numbers. Whether you use the Wartburg College application or the Common Application, the admissions folks will want to see a strong application essay, meaningful extracurricular activities, and positive letters of recommendation. A strong academic record is the most important part of your application, and the college wants to see successful completion of college preparatory classes in core subjects. Success in AP, IB, Honors, and Dual Enrollment classes is an added bonus.

If you think you might be interested in attending Wartburg, the college recommends a personalized visit. Not only is this a great way for you to get to know the college better (and for the college to get to know you), but it is also a way to demonstrate your interest which can have a positive role in the admissions process. Students who visit Wartburg can tour the campus and a residence hall, meet with an admissions counselor, visit a class, attend chapel, meet with a professor, talk to a coach or other co-curricular leader, stay overnight, and have lunch with a student.

Note that grades and standardized test scores are good for more than admission to Wartburg, for the college also offers merit scholarships. For example, in 2017, students with a 3.4 GPA, a class rank in the top 25%, and an ACT composite score of 22 or higher (or an SAT score of 1030 or higher) typically receive a $20,000 Regents and Presidential Scholarship.
