Vassar College is a highly selective liberal arts college that accepts less than a quarter of all applicants. To get in, you'll need high school grades and standardized test scores that are significantly above average. In the graph above, the blue and green dots represent accepted students. You can see that the majority of successful applicants had high school averages of "A-" or higher, combined SAT scores of 1900 or higher, and ACT composite scores of 28 or better. Many applicants had impressive 4.0 GPAs.

Good grades and test scores alone, however, will not get you admitted to Vassar. You'll notice quite a few red dots (rejected students) and yellow dots (waitlisted students) interspersed with the green and blue throughout the graph. Many applicants had grades and test scores that were on target for Vassar College yet were not admitted. The opposite is also true -- some students were accepted with test scores and grades a little bit below the norm. This is because Vassar's admissions process is based on more than quantitative information. The college uses the Common Application and has holistic admissions. The college will be looking at the rigor of your high school courses, not just your grades. Also, they will be looking for a winning essay, interesting extracurricular activities, an engaging short answer, and strong letters of recommendation. Students can further strengthen their applications by writing a focused and compelling supplemental essay in Vassar's supplement to the Common Application. Vassar does offer optional interviews, but these are not evaluated as part of the admissions process.
