The University of Portland's admissions are selective, and about a third of all applicants will receive a rejection letter. In the graph above, the green and blue dots represent admitted students. You can see that the majority of students who got in to UP had GPAs of B+/A- or higher, SAT scores (CR+M+W) above 1700, and ACT composite scores of 24 or higher. A large number of successful applicants had solid "A" averages.

Good grades and test scores, however, do not guarantee you an acceptance letter. In the middle of the graph you'll see a bit of red (rejected students) and yellow (waitlisted students) interspersed with the blue and green. Some students whose grades and test scores were on target for admission to UP were note admitted. On the flip side, you can see that a some students were accepted with test scores and grades a bit below the norm. This is because Portland has holistic admissions. The admissions officers will want to see that you have taken rigorous classes, written a winning essay, participated in interesting extracurricular activities, and a received strong letters of recommendation.
