Discussion of UNI's Admissions Standards

The University of Northern Iowa has moderately selective admissions -- about a quarter of all applicants will not get in. In the scattergram above, the blue and green dots represent students who were accepted. Most had SAT scores of 1400 or higher, an ACT composite of 19 or higher, and a high school average of a "B" or higher. A significant number of applicants have grades up in the "A" range.

UNI admissions are largely numerical rather than holistic. The university calculates a Regent Admission Index (RAI) based on an applicant's ACT composite score, high school rank, high school GPA, and coursework in core subject areas (learn more on the UNI admissions website). Students who meet a minimum RAI are guaranteed admission. Students whose scores and grades are below the norm are considered on an individual basis.
