The University of Mary Washington is one of the country's top public liberal arts colleges. Admissions are selective, and about one in every four applicants will not get in. Successful applicants tend to have grades and standardized test scores that are considerable above average. In the graph above, the blue and green dots represent accepted students. As you can see, the majority of successful applicants had high school GPAs of "B" or better, combined SAT scores of about 1700 or higher, and ACT composite scores of 24 or better. The college tends to attract strong students, and you'll notice that many applicants had grades up in the "A" range.

Standardized test scores and high school GPAs are just one part of the Mary Washington application. Whether you use the Mary Washington application or the Common Application, the admissions folks will be looking to see that you have taken challenging high school courses, written an engaging essay, participated in interesting extracurricular activities, and received glowing letters of recommendation. Finally, make sure you put some effort into the essay in the university's supplement to the Common Application -- you'll be asked to think about the school's Honor System.
