Just over half of all applicants to Allegheny College will get in. Successful applicants will need grades and standardized test scores that are above average. In the graph above, the blue and green dots represent accepted students. You can see that the majority of successful applicants had high school GPAs in the "A" and "B" range, combined SAT scores of about 1700 or better, and ACT composite scores of 24 or higher. The higher those grades and test scores, the better your chances are of receiving an acceptance letter. You'll notice that very few students with solid "A" averages were rejected.

Note that there are a few red dots (rejected students) and yellow dots (waitlisted students) mixed in with the green and blue in the middle of the graph. Some students with grades and test scores that seemed to be on target for Allegheny College did not win admission. Note also that some students were accepted with test scores and grades a little bit below the norm. This is because Allegheny, like most of the country's top private liberal arts colleges, uses The Common Application and has holistic admissions. The Allegheny admissions folks take into consideration the rigor of your high school courses, your application essay, extracurricular activities, and letters of recommendation. Demonstrated interest and Allegheny's optional college interview can also improve a student's chances of receiving an acceptance letter.
