About half of all applicants to Alabama State University will get an acceptance letter, but the bar for admissions isn't all that high. In the graph above, the blue and green dots represent accepted students. You can see that the majority of successful applicants had high school averages of "C" or higher, combined SAT scores (critical reading + math + writing) of 1200 or higher, and ACT composite scores of 14 or better. Higher numbers obviously increase your chances of getting in.

Note that there are some red dots (rejected students) and yellow dots (waitlisted students) mixed in with the green and blue throughout much of the graph. Some students with grades and test scores that were on target for Alabama State University did not win admission. This may be because they did not complete all components of their applications, or they did not take enough college preparatory classes in high school. On the flip side, note that some students were accepted with test scores and grades a bit below the norm. This is because Alabama State's admissions process is not entirely quantitative. Students who show promise but do not meet the university's GPA and standardized test criteria may be admitted to the ASU Bridge Program to help them with the transition to college. Note that ASU's admission decisions are based largely on numerical data, but students with higher GPAs can get in with weaker standardized test scores. The opposite is also true -- high test scores can help compensate for a less-than-ideal high school record. The Alabama State application does not include essays, letters of recommendation, or extracurricular information.
