Discussion of Wentworth Institute of Technology's Admissions Standards

In the graph above, the blue and green dots represent students who were admitted. You can see that most had a combined SAT score (RW+M) of 1000 or higher, an ACT composite score of 20 or higher, and a high school average in the "B" range or better. Your chances of being admitted will be higher if your grades and test scores are above these lower ranges, and you'll notice some red dots (rejected students) overlapping with the green and the blue on the lower and left edges of the acceptance range. Because Wentworth has a technological focus, applicants tend to be particularly strong in math. Applicants' math SAT scores are often 50 points higher than their SAT critical reading scores.

Wentworth accepts The Common Application, The Universal Application and the Wentworth Application. No matter which application you use, the admissions process is holistic, so the admissions officers want to get to know you as a three-dimensional person, not as a bunch of test scores and grades. While solid SAT or ACT scores matter, and the institute will certainly want to see that you have succeeded in challenging courses, other factors are also important. Wentworth requires that all applicants submit a letter of recommendation from a counselor or teacher, and you are welcome to submit more than one letter. All applicants must also submit a personal statement of at least 250 words. Also, the Wentworth Institute of Technology wants to know about your extracurricular activities including work experiences, athletics, community service, and participation in clubs and organizations.

Because of Wentworth's technological focus, the admissions folks will want to see that applicants have completed a minimum of Algebra II as well as at least one lab science. Some fields such as computer science and mechanical engineering require applicants to have taken Precalculus or Calculus.

Finally, not that Wentworth has a rolling admissions policy--applications are reviewed as they are received. Your chances will be best, however, if you apply early. After February 15th, some academic programs will be closed.
