Discussion of Pacific University's Admissions Standards:

Pacific University is a private liberal arts university located in Forest Grove, Oregon. The university has a fairly high acceptance rate (roughly 4 out of 5 applicants will get in), but this doesn't mean weak students will receive acceptance letters. The university attracts strong students, and those who get in tend to have grades and standardized test scores that are above average. In the graph above, the blue and green dots represent admitted students. You'll notice that the majority of accepted students have grades up in the "A" range, and nearly all successful applicants have high school averages of a "B" or better. On the standardized test front, successful applicants tend to have combined SAT scores (RW+M) of 1000 or higher and ACT composite scores of 20 or higher. Having scores above these lower numbers will improve your chances of getting in. The university's Business Scholars Program has additional admission requirements and high standards than the university of a whole.

Pacific University, like most selective colleges, has holistic admissions. Applicants are evaluated on more than numerical data such as GPAs and standardized test scores. The university wants to get to know applicants as individuals, and will be looking for students who will contribute to the campus community in meaningful ways. Like hundreds of other colleges, Pacific University uses the Common Application exclusively. The university will want to see a strong application essay, meaningful extracurricular activities, and positive letters of recommendation. Honors, work experiences, and special talents can all play a positive role in the admissions process.

The rigor of your high school curriculum will also be an important piece of the admissions equation. Successfully completing challenging college preparatory classes--AP, IB, Honors, Dual Enrollment--will all help demonstrate your readiness for college-level work.
